Symphony Band

The Symphony Band meets daily and is one of the advanced performing instrumental groups at Madison District Public Schools. This yearlong course is composed of students on all of the major woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Instruction concentrates on technical and expressive skills in an ensemble-focused setting. Membership in this group is selective as music reading, musicianship and student responsibility are required. This group will perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts, adjudicated festivals and other school-related functions.

 

Acceptance in the Madison Windy Symphony is by audition and at the discretion of the director.  Audition requirements include:  

•      Two or more years of experience (or discretion of the director)

•      Concert F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Major scales by memory

•      Chromatic Scale 

•      Understanding of intonation and basic pitch tendencies   

•      Understanding of sixteenth, dotted, and syncopated rhythms   

•      Understanding of 2/2 (cut time) and 6/8 time signatures

Marching Eagles at Madison HS

Go Eagles! This class is comprised of students concurrently enrolled in Wind Symphony, or who are color guard members who have previously auditioned for a spot in the ensemble.  In addition, 8th grade band students enrolled in the Wilkinson Symphonic Band will be invited to audition for this group, provided they have parental permission.  This course is an extension of the skills taught in Wind Symphony and is designed to teach teamwork, self-discipline, and develop higher level thinking skills necessary to express yourself through music.  Attendance at rehearsals and performances is mandatory.  In the fall, the Marching Eagles will perform at all home varsity football games during pre-game and halftime as well as various local parades.

 

The Marching Eagles rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays afterschool from 3:00pm-4:30pm during varsity football season.
